Living by the sea, Kate is captivated by the dramatic yet welcoming skies and water. Of particular interest is the expressive quality of the light in morning and evening. When you gaze at the sea you get lost in looking. In these dreamlike seascapes the boat is a symbol of solitude and contemplation. They have a sense of mystery. The aim is to evoke an ethereal experience of calm and wonder.
In this series, a combination of landscape and abstract, layers of muted colour create the soft blurred backgrounds with more gestural brushstrokes for the representational elements.
Kate has a Fine Arts Honours Degree from Sydney University, and an Associate Diploma of Colour and Design.
